Mrs. Susan Friend

School Director

I have been with QSI for 12 years in both teaching and administrative roles. I believe that the educational model of QSI and the mastery learning approach helps young learners be internally motivated and successful. With an Educational Administrative Master's degree and certification, I hope to continue to positively effect the students in order to grow and reach their potential. Reading and writing is my specialty and I also hold certifications in preschool and Cross-Cultural and Language Acquisition and Development.

I have been involved in QSI and international school throughout the world. I love culturally diverse backgrounds and have lived and worked in Belize, Burkina Faso, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Thailand, and China. In these environments I have written curriculum, implemented Child Protection policies, and led self-studies for accreditation with the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA).

Mrs. Marry Dijkman

Classroom teacher, 5- and 6-year old students

My name is Marry Dijkman-Bauer. I grew up in the Netherlands, in a small town called Dokkum, where I had a wonderful and happy childhood. Once I had to decide what career path I wanted to take, I was set to become an educator.  A decision that I never regretted. I just love my job!

When I was studying in the ’80s, I got the opportunity to get specialized in teaching young elementary students. Since working with younger groups was very close to my heart, I chose to head in that direction. After getting my teaching degree, I was lucky to find a job right away. Since I was passionate about diversity and inclusion, and because I had then only just left school, I opted to continue studying next to work with a special needs education course, for which I got my certificate two years later.

Over the years, I had the opportunity to work in several schools, in several cities, in several countries, and I am very thankful for that. I think this is my 24th year of teaching! I can hardly believe it, but time flies if you do what you love. This is my 6th year at QSI in Münster. I am very grateful to work in an international setting, which is something very special! Working with the little world citizens is a true joy!

Mr. Greyson Spencer

Classroom teacher, 10- and 11-year old students.

My name is Greyson Spencer. I'm a passionate teacher that always tries to find new and exciting ways to do things in the classroom. I graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington in 2013 and since then I have taught in the United States, Australia, China (at another QSI school), and Hungary.

My teaching philosophy is that students learn more when they are having fun. Being happy and having fun helps to stimulate the brain, and often the experiences will last longer in a student's memory. To this aim, I try to incorporate games into my class and give my students as many opportunities to take control of their own learning as possible.

Qualifications and Training:

B.A. in English Literature (Western Washington University, Bellingham, Washington, USA)

Washington State Teaching Certification in English Literature (Secondary) and TESOL K-12

Mr. Octavio Perez

Mathematics and Science Teacher, Middle School and Secondary students

My name is Octavio Xavier Perez and I grew up in the Central Valley of California, then moved north to the Redwood Coast for university. After getting my bachelor’s degree, I moved to Münster for my M.A. and that is when I discovered QSI. I was a volunteer and an intern for two school years and I loved the experience. When I completed my M.A., I was lucky that QSI needed a teacher, and I was ready to teach full time!

My teaching philosophy is that learning is a lifelong process, and that we all have the capabilities to explore and learn about the unknown. My primary goal isn’t to teach concepts as separate entities, it’s to give students the tools and knowledge they need to learn or critically think about anything they could ever think of!

Outside of teaching, I love playing music, hiking, biking, building or crafting, and playing games.

Qualifications and Training:

B.A. Liberal Studies: Elementary Education (California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, USA)

M.A. National and Transnational Studies (WWU Münster, Germany)

Currently finishing a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential (Arizona, USA)

I was born in Racibórz, a small city in the South of Poland next to the Czech Republic border. After finishing my Bachelor studies in German language and getting my teacher’s degree at the University of Wroclaw; I moved to Germany to study Communication; Politics and Social Science at the University of Münster.

In addition to following the political events of what is happening in the world and the great fascination with the history of mankind, I spend my free time on my bike in Münsterland or hiking in the mountains.

QSI Münster makes it possible for me to do what I love: teach students how to communicate in a new language and help them to find themselves in a new country and culture.Through organizing and preparing students for MUN in the past years has helped me to improve my knowledge and interests in political science. I am so proud to be a part of our small international community in Münster and to help the students on their way to success.

Mr. Julian Fahl

English, Cultural Studies, Music, and Art teacher, Middle School and Secondary students

This school, like our wonderful city, is bustling with excitement and places waiting to be discovered! It is my pleasure to introduce myself as your child's teacher in one of the following courses: Modern World History, American Literature, Secondary Literature & Writing, Research Project, Middle School Cultural Studies, and Middle School Art & Music.  I am highly motivated and honored to continue working at QSI Münster during my fourth year amongst such a talented and international team, implementing our extensive curriculum in order to provide a rigorous, caring, and exciting learning atmosphere for all.

Like many students in this school, I am the product of an international upbringing, education, and mindset.  I was at a similar age when I first left Germany for the United States, and like them, I grew up amidst a multitude of cultures, languages, and locations.  Through this memorable experience, I fell in love with learning, languages, and intercultural exchange, and, therefore am determined to pursue an education with the goal of understanding others, and bringing people closer together through the wonderful tool of learning. I firmly believe that we benefit from two educations in our lives: the one that we attain in school and the one that we receive from those who surround us.  With that said, I am honored to play a small role in the journey of your child.
